Models and Photographers, what are the average modeling rates?
I am looking for somebody who knows what they are talking about, not a smart ass kid. What are fair rates to charge a photographer for different types of modeling? I am 24, very fit, experienced, and professional. I am just tired of playing the guessing game with different photographers, I want to set solid rates. Thanks!

- It really depends on what type of modeling you do....
- There is no such thing as solid rates. The rates will be determined by their usage. The same exact photo session can command vastly different rates based on a wide variety of factors. Some of which is the client. The prominence of the person in the shoot, The distribution, The longevity of the ad, whether or not there is a buy out, whether or not the is ad is exclusive. The market it is used for and there are many more factors. For example: We used people in the background for a VW spot. These pictures were only going in a catalog. The price we paid was $2500 dollars for the day. Now if these same exact pictures were going to be used in an billboard the rates would of been closer to $20,000 per day. If these pictures were created to run only in some small town news paper the rates may have been only 200 per day. The rates could even be higher if it was a top model. Now to determine what to charge. If you are working all the time then your rates are probably to low. This actually hurts you as people will learn they can get you cheaper. However if you only work once a week then you do not have too much leverage on the market place and what your price should be. Find out what the usually going rate for a shoot in your market and then stick to it. Try to get our of the hourly rate that smaller markets sometime like to use. Even as a photographer I never ever charge an hourly rate. I either have a day rate or a session fee. Good Luck
