I can only relay my experience when I first started selling stock. I looked on the back of the local post cards that you find in the 7-11 or Drug stores and contacted the company on the back. They were nice enough to at least take a look at what I had.
As it turned out, they purchased 10 images (all rights) from me for $35 each and I thought I had hit the big time… That was $350 in my pocket!!!
After this I was hired on several occasions to shoot for them and for a higher rate per image… and of course anytime I had something I thought they would be interested in I would contact them and let them see.
Another approch I used was to take photos of a businesses building with their signage plainly in view. I was as professional as I could be and always shot slide film. Then I would make an appointment with their PR dept and offer them the image… sometimes I dealt with the owner directly. I lived in a resort town and had plenty of motels and properties that did brochures and postcards on a regualar basis and always were looking for updated work. This is known as shooting on "spec" (speculation) that they will want to buy.
Once and awhile I would rent a helicopter and have the pilot fly around a business and I would shoot from many angles. When I went to see the owner I would present him with a series of slides and offer to add to them by shooting more of his property. The arials alone would go for $100 each or a group for around $250. I would shoot the extra ground shots based on a day rate plus expenses. Ususally $500 a day for 8 hours. .. and I always would shoot until sunset.
OK, here are a couple of ideas that worked for me maybe you can update them and make them fit your style. Whatever, be proactive and contact them with what you have to offer. It really is that easy.
Just an example… I could rent a helicopter for about $250, shoot around 10 rolls of film at $25 a roll including processing and then on my first sell break even…. after that all was pure profit. I have made several thousand $ in one flight before.
Good luck with your endeavors…

you could sell online for stock photography
well, first of all, the photos you were going to sell, would have to be the best quality they could possibly be, and that means using a Digital SLR or a Film SLR camera, no one is going to buy an image which was taking with a five megapixel point and shoot camera. However, when you take a picture on a SLR camera, you can sell them here:

however, you don’t get much for them, because that’s not a professional place to buy photos, other than that, i don’t know where else you could sell them. Oh, and as i mentioned earlier, unless they were taken with a beyond decent camera, they won’t get much attention.
you can sell them on stock sites. you start out making pennies but can make a lot after a while if you are actually good at taking photos.
they need to be very high quality so a DSLR is essential
